Introduction

Bridgewater Dental Centre offers sleep dentistry (also known as sedation dentistry), alleviating a great deal of anxiety many people experience from a traditional visit to the dentist. If you or somebody you know has a high level of anxiety concerning dental visits, they may be a candidate for sleep dentistry.

Millions of Canadians are afraid of going to the dentist. Most let this fear prevent them from proper and necessary dental care. You no longer have to suffer from dental anxiety. Sleep dentistry allows you to stay calm and comfortable during any procedure. You will sleep through your treatment with little to no memory of your appointment.

If you have experienced any of the following, you may be a candidate for sedation dentistry:

  • Anxiety about the dental office
  • Have had traumatic dental experiences in the past
  • Fear of needles
  • A bad gag reflex

Sedation dentistry can be used for all dental treatment, such as general dentistry, implant dentistry, cosmetic dentistry and even for your regular dental cleanings!

Most commonly asked questions

Is dental anxiety common or am I the only one?

Dental anxiety is very common. Over 60% of the adult Canadian population requires some form of medication to help cope with dental treatment.

What is conscious sedation?

This type of sedation induces an altered state of consciousness that minimizes pain and discomfort through the use of pain relievers and sedatives. When under conscious sedation, you are usually able to speak and respond to verbal cues throughout the procedure, communicating any discomfort they experience to our dentists. The medication will help you rest. Many of our clients sleep while receiving sedation dentistry. A brief period of amnesia may erase any memory of the procedure.

Are there any side effects of Sleep Dentistry?

A brief period of amnesia after your appointment may follow sleep dentistry sedation. Occasional side effects may include headache, nausea, hangover/jet lag feeling, or limited memory of the appointment.

Can I have all my dental treatment done in one appointment?

YES! If you have a tight schedule, we are able to accomplish a considerable amount of work in fewer visits.

What types of Sleep Dentistry are offered at your office?

Bridgewater Dental Centre offers four forms of anxiety-reducing help for your dental visits, TLC, oral sedation, Nitrous Oxide Sedation, and IV sedation. Depending on your level of anxiety, our dentists are able to pair you with the appropriate level of sedation to make you comfortable during your appointments.
